It’s all about the water…
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
- Spray or mist your skin with water
- Wet a towel and lay it on your skin, then turn on a fan
- Take a cool bath or shower
- Eat ice or freeze juice into popsicles
If you’re outside…
- Wear loose, light clothing
- Protect your head and face with a hat or bandana
- Do any physical tasks in the early morning or evening
Don’t create more heat
- Cook outside instead of using the oven or stove
- Turn off any lights or appliances that generate heat and use them only at night
Prevent hot air from getting inside
- Close all curtains or blinds
- Seal all nooks and crannies around doors and windows
- Seal off the warmest rooms in the house
- Avoid upstairs where the heat accumulates
- Use umbrellas, awnings, etc. outside to shade windows and doors
In the evening…
- Open all windows and create a cross breeze to cool off the house
If your neighborhood is subject to loss of power, consider using battery-operated fans and installing solar panels. Try creating more shade around your house by planting bushes or trees.
Stay cool!
