7 Tips to Protect Your House Through the Rains

October precipitation has been mild so far, but it’s coming! Rather than bear the expense of damage after it happens, get a head start and invest fewer resources now.

Here is a checklist:

  1. Get any gutters cleared of debris
  2. Make sure drains are clear of debris inside and out, on balconies, in the yards, etc.
  3. Have a contractor or handyman check your windows and doors to ensure tight seals
  4. Have a roofer inspect any skylights, as well as your roof for defective flashing, loose shingles or soft spots
  5. Ensure the foundation and any retaining walls have not been compromised and can perform as intended
  6. Correct any inadequate concrete sloping and ensure water doesn’t pool around the foundation and/or into the structure
  7. If you anticipate a lot of wind and your property has trees close by, you may want to have the trees trimmed to prevent excess damage to the trees or the structure
And then sit back, relax and enjoy the fresh smell of rain.Happy winter!
